today, finally, the walk

didn't quite manage the 8am wake up, but go on a walk i did.

i put on my running shoes, beanie and new sansa clip, grabbed the old phone (all packaged up and ready to ship) and off i went. the plan: hit starbucks for coffee/breakfast, then supermarket for apples, and along the way locate a mailbox to drop off the package.

it took about 10 minutes to reach the shopping center and at the very end of it there i found an old blue mailbox. but the slot was too small and my oddly shaped package would not fit! just then, i spied the UPS store... i walked in with a new plan. 1) i would hold up my package 2) ask in a semi-confused way about the nearest post office. 3) the UPS employee would take pity and offer to ship the package for me.

and it totally worked! she even told me where the post office was for next time! yes, i am that masterful.

is ignorance the only true key to happiness? i figured i might as well test this theory.

next, i buffoonishly ordered my coffee and sandwich, and dare i say it, the starbuxers were somewhat nicer than usual.

at the supermarket, the friendly checker at the self check-out area helped me scan my apples and swipe my credit card. playing dumb is awesome!

satisfied, i made my way back to the apartment.

this is the sweet patio area i'll have to check out next time.

this is the river.

this is the bike path which runs along the river, goes under the street and leads to the lake.

this is where we live.

this is me coming home and being productive... where did all those boxes go?!!?

and this is the coolest sign in Irvine.

so now, i'm cleaning. and damn, this place is filthy.
checking in... this is just sad

random: first good night's sleep and it wasn't even in my i'll-beat-anyone's-advertised-price-or-your-mattress-is-free bed.

mandy; did you change your number?

i'm mostly done with WoW and 3.1 is still about a month away. i've been waiting months for this moment and now that it's here, i feel lost.

things i really need to do to start caring about my life again: (it's the little things)

#talk to the manager about installing an awning
#get my mp3 player to work
#new brakes for the truck? i kind of don't want to know the answer
#send the broken phone back to the manufacturer
#sell my life on ebay

shopping list:

#USB DVD Burner for laptop
#apples
#new monitor
#TV for my bedroom to help my sleep

gym/write... most important things. UGH. having nothing to get out of bed in the morning for sucks.

Yip has been gone almost 3 days... sadness! why? cus i finally got Max Payne and Transporter 3 and i have to wait til he gets back to watch them!!!!

i started reading The Demolished Man the other night. i miss reading.

Dylan is a total brat and one day soon it shall become a problem. but not my problem! suck it, family!

i THINK about writing all the time, still, yet i can't put fingers to keyboard. i think it because the stuff i want to write about is stuff i've never written about before and it scares the shit out of me.

again, i can hear your microwave DINGing.

i can hear the trash man.

i promised to clean up the apartment before Yip comes back, but i've yet to pick up the swiffer.

i like my guildies. they appreciate good old-fashioned homoeroticism.

i don't take enough pictures.

i need to do my taxes.

...which would be easier if UDE would pay me.

Danny scheduled a drawing night tonight in Fullerton, but i have nothing to bring except my friendship and that's totally not gonna be enough. i suck.

Watchmen

First, WOW.

Second, Unfilmable? Shows what Alan Moore knows about screenwriting. But to be fair, when Moore originally said that, Watchmen, due in large part to political and technical limitations, was unfilmable. But it's not the 80's/90's anymore, dudes! We got big budgets, big effects and moral leniency... in today's register they list some of the obstacles the film makers faced when trying to bring Watchmen to the big screen, the most rediculous among them being the fact that it stars a "blue naked hero".

Hah!

Third, Even with the alternate ending (which still manages to retain much of the structure and thematic meaning of the original ending), I don't think we will ever get a more accurate translation of a self-contained comic book series from a major studio.

...did not think I would ever live to say that.

Fourth, Zack Snyder did not disappoint.

...also, I can't believe I just said that!

From start to finish I was completely immersed in the story, and surprisingly, the filmed version clarified and distilled the story in a way I'm sure the average moviegoer will be able to understand, digest and perhaps apply to their lives, something the graphic novel has always had trouble with... and hell, I've read the damn thing 5-6 times. "Black Freighter"? GAH!

Of course, like any adaptation, there are certain scenes and bits of dialogue that didn't make the cut. As hardcore as I am, I can accept that, and I think most fans will as well, mostly because it was done well. Unlike, say... some other Alan Moore adaptations (We're looking at you V, and you LOEG).

Should you see it even if you have no interest in comics? Definitely. It has something to say! Go listen!

The last time I was this impressed with a comic based movie was last year's The Dark Knight. I'm glad I didn't have to wait too long to be impressed again.

I liked it as much as I thought I would, which is to say, much. Dude kills more guys than Rambo in Rambo, and if we remember correctly, Stallone takes out the entire Cambodian army.

There have been a ton of sad bastard movies about Human trafficking in the last few years, it's nice to finally get one in the classic 80's action movie style.

Voodoo Dolly and the last few days

The movie that Jim and I helped out on, oh… I don’t know, two years ago? Five? Anyway, it’s done. As done as it can be. And last Friday night, the director, Danny’s dad, set up a screening for it in LA. So, obviously I took some time out of my uber-busy schedule and attended.

Enjoy the following randomized images from that night. Also, be sure to notice the lack of pics from the screening itself.

And then there’s this little gem:

<lj-embed id="11" />

Also, we were almost late for the movie because it took rainman 2 hours to get ready. What a GURL.

What else?

I’ve been writing/thinking about writing more lately and with that comes the dreams/nightmares. And the sleeplessness. And the late nights. And I kind of think I need it to stop.

New Andrew Bird yesterday, listening to it now. Nothing’s really jumped out at me yet, which means it may take a couple of listens.

WoW is patching today and I think I may take the afternoon off. See a movie. Have lunch outside. But, gotta be back on by 6pm to raid! I welcome (character) death.

It was hailing yesterday. Hailing.

I missed the due date on my credit card bill. Lame. First time this has happened in almost 3 years I would think. What the hell happened to me? Oh yeah, I’ve always been like this.

My phone is still broken, a testament to the overwhelming indifference I am feeling.

Also, I need to call Dan.

Dylan’s coming by tomorrow, so I need to clean the apartment. Dusting mostly, cus that little dude likes to touch EVERYTHING.

Need to call Cox. Apparently they like to add random charges for things we never ordered for no particular reason. Bastards.

UDE needs to pay me already. Should be heading down there this week, so, we’ll see what we can see.

Last Sunday: my mom invited me to lunch with her, my dad and my brother at the Red Lobster (heh, Happy Gilmore) because my dad was missing me. It took my mom almost 15 minutes, but she finally convinced me to go. I had lobster and shrimp. No regrets. Ah, and it was nice seeing my dad… especially since I had that unfortunate dream about his funeral a few weeks ago. Are you happy now, rman?

I miss Mandy. I think. No, I do. She’s so busy all the time. Let’s see a movie! And then have a long talk and catch up like a couple of gossipy teenagers! I have things to tell you!

That list: TBS thinks I was being vague. TBS can choke on Thai Spice. Also, TBS was wrong. I hate you TBS.

I had more to say on Saturday, but lost track of time… and now it’s Tuesday and I’m spent. I’ll be back later. As usual.

This is probably a good movie if you haven’t seen the films that preceded it. if you have, tough luck, not only have you seen it all before, but the ending has already been completely spoiled.

my weekend, what happened?

rainman spent the better part of it trapped in our apartment with friends (Jeff and Ken) from Carlsbad. we watched something like 8-10 movies, consumed cookies and donuts, frisky dingo'd, slept in, ate good sushi, bad Korean, mediocre El Torito and topped it all off with some Krull and a few choice "love songs on the Koast".

"Kull? Like the conqueror?" - Yip

things we discovered:

1) bobo tea-baggins black eyes are more common than you'd think
2) getting hit in the face with a pot and/or pan is more common than you'd think
3) i hate Steven Spielberg
4) my nephew has been speaking Korean this ENTIRE TIME!
5) Asiantowne > Thai Spice > El Torito > IHOP (according to Ken)
6) donuts are greater than everything (first proposed by Yip, agreed on by all)
